A Groundbreaking New Tool to Help Parents and Educators Recognize and Respond to Early Signs of Learning Struggle

The Early Learning Observation & Rating Scale (ELORS) is a brand new screening tool for use with four-year-old children in the year before they enter kindergarten. This free, easy-to-use resource complements the early learning and literacy resources already available on the Get Ready to Read! site and will help parents and others to gather and share information so that all young children have the best opportunities to be prepared for school success.

Early Literacy Webinars

NCLD is pleased to co-sponsor an early literacy webinar series with the Stern Center for Language and Learning featuring their free online program for early care and education providers and parents: BUILDNG BLOCKS FOR LITERACY®. BUILDING BLOCKS offers research-based and research-proven information and activities to help prepare preschool children for reading success when they enter kindergarten.

This four-part series parallels modules of the online BUILDING BLOCKS course and highlights activities that are play based and developmentally appropriate for immediate implementation at home and in childcare settings. The first webinar, Early Literacy Research and Language Development, is now available on the Get Ready to Read! site. Mark your calendar for the next webinar, Shared Book Reading Emphasizing Vocabulary, on April 23 at 1:00 P.M. EST.
